What is AAU Prague?
Anglo-American University (AAU) is a private, English-taught university located in the heart of Prague, offering students the opportunity to earn a US-accredited degree while studying in Europe as well as the same degree being also fully accredited and recognized in the EU for many students who decide to build their life here. As the oldest private universities in the Czech Republic, AAU combines a US-style academic model with a European learning environment, creating a globally focused education experience.
The accreditations not only show the opportunities and internationality, but also the academic rigor it requires to obtain them. AAU is accredited by WSCUC or WASC, the same entity that accredits Stanford and UC Berkeley (among others), which also allows students to pursue further studies in US universities.
The university is known for its small class sizes, personalized approach to teaching, and highly international student body, where students learn in discussion-based seminars rather than large lecture halls. Beyond academics, AAU offers a vibrant campus life with 25+ student clubs and over 100 events each year, helping students build meaningful connections and develop both personally and professionally.

AAU has also received recognition in student-led rankings. It was named University of the Year in the EDUopinions Student Reviews Guide 2026, a distinction based on thousands of verified student reviews evaluating overall satisfaction, teaching quality, and student experience across European universities. This reflects AAU’s strong reputation among its students and the value it delivers in terms of education and community.
A different path to a US-accredited degree
At AAU, students follow a unique academic model that combines the strengths of both the United States and Europe. The university offers a US-accredited degree delivered in a European university environment, meaning students graduate with a qualification recognized in the United States while studying in the heart of Prague.
AAU offers a range of internationally focused programs at the Bachelor’s and Master’s level, including fields such as Business Administration, International Relations, Humanities, Communication, Journalism, and Visual Arts. These programs are designed to give students a globally relevant education with flexible specializations that align with modern career paths. AAU also offers a variety of study abroad programs.
Study smarter, not more expensively
For many students, especially in the United States, the cost of a university degree is just as important as its quality. In the United States, the average annual cost of attending a private four-year university—including tuition, fees, housing, and other expenses—can approach $48,000 per year.
At Anglo-American University, students can earn a US-accredited degree for a fraction of that cost, with the added advantage of completing a bachelor’s degree in three years instead of four thanks to AAU’s unique combination of US and European accreditation.
To make studying even more accessible, AAU offers a wide range of scholarships, tuition discounts, financial aid, and flexible payment options for both prospective and current students. In the 2025/26 academic year alone, the university awarded 19.3 million CZK in financial aid and scholarships to support its students.
Prague as a student city
There’s a reason students from around the world choose Prague. Consistently ranked among the best student cities in Europe, the Czech capital offers the perfect balance of history, culture, affordability, and modern city life. From exploring centuries-old landmarks and cozy cafés to discovering vibrant nightlife and weekend trips across Europe, there’s always something to experience, and the incredible public transportation system makes it a breeze. You can find some of my top recommendations on my Instagram page, @taylortakesprague!
You can see more about student city rankings also at EduOpinions here. AAU students have access to dedicated student housing through their partner, making it easy to settle into life in Prague from day one. Students who prefer more independence also have the option to arrange their own accommodation, whether that’s a private apartment, shared flat, or other housing in the city.
Whether you’re studying, exploring the city’s neighborhoods, or traveling to other European destinations, Prague provides an unforgettable university experience both inside and outside the classroom.

Small class sized & personalized learning
At AAU, learning goes beyond a typical lecture. With an average class size of just 15–18 students, a maximum of 30 students per class, and a 17:1 student-to-faculty ratio, students benefit from a more personalized and engaging academic experience. This is much different from my undergraduate experience at a university in the United States, where some of my classes had 200+ students being taught by one professor.
Smaller classes encourage meaningful discussions, closer collaboration with classmates, and direct access to professors, who are able to provide individual feedback and mentorship. Whether you’re asking questions in class, working on group projects, or discussing career goals during office hours, the supportive learning environment at AAU helps students build confidence and make the most of their university experience.
According to recent data from AAU, 70% of their graduates start working immediately after graduation, with 81% of them already having a job offer before graduating. On top of that, 71% of students work in the field they studied in. These statistics show that AAU’s programs set students up for success in their chosen field and beyond.

Throughout the year, students can also take part in networking events, guest lectures, cultural celebrations, and trips around Prague and the Czech Republic. Whether you’re a local student or moving from abroad, AAU’s close-knit community makes it easy to get involved, build lasting friendships, and create memories that extend well beyond graduation.
